After studying Music Composition and reeds at the University of Akron, Woody Brubaker has spent fifty years in the music business. An accomplished musician on saxophone, clarinet, flute, piano and vocals, he’s had the opportunity to perform in a variety of venues from high school and college marching and concert bands, chamber and jazz ensembles to U.S. Air Force Bands.
As a multi-instrumental soloist and arranger/composer for the United States Air Force Bands for 8 years, he wrote music for all ensembles and contributed music for several short government promo films. Woody was the first to assemble a vocal group from an Air Force band and compete in the World Wide Air Force Talent Contest. He also organized and arranged for the first show group from an Air Force field band.
Woody has composed music for jingles, chamber groups, jazz orchestras and concert bands. He has also performed in and arranged music for the show group Sunny Days Revue from Virginia Beach, accompanied Trini Lopez, Bobby Rydel, Jim Baily, Denise Darcel and Steve Lawrence and Edye Gormé.
Woody has appeared as a singer and pianist with Carnival Cruise Lines and in nightclubs and lounges throughout the Eastern United States.
In SW Florida, he contributed to six CD projects (the Skip Haynes Black Tie Band; Mileposts and Skip Haynes: Unplugged, Skyline Elementary School, The Uptown Express and two projects for singer Katheryn Taubert), and was musical director for Peace River Productions theater group in Port Charlotte.
He has also performed in SW Florida with the Freestyle Band, The Jet Set, The Harry Hellings Quartet, and The Skip Haynes Black Tie Band. His “Horns-a-Plenty” show has been seen at the Dolce Vita and Riviera restaurants on Sanibel Island, the Leapin’ Lizard Bar and Grill, The Oasis, The Cosmopolitan Grill, Brew Babies, Biddles, The Sandy Butler and La Trattoria restaurants in Ft. Myers.
Woody currently performs with Marvilla Marzan at the Roadhouse Cafe Florida and with Father Al and the Jazz Congregation at a variety of venues in SW Florida. He is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and ASMAC (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers)
